Bank Short–Long–Short

Bank shot, no side spin: the near short rail, the far long rail, then the other short rail before either ball. Start is read on the near long rail, aim on the first short rail (0 at its middle), finish on the far short rail.

FormulaAim = Start − Finish + table correction

Reading the numbers

Start On the near long rail, 1 a diamond counting from the far corner: 8 down to 0, read through the cue ball. Starts 3 to 8.

Aim On the first cushion, the near short rail: 0 at its middle, 3 a diamond either side (−6 to 6).

Arrival On the far short rail, 2 a diamond: 0 up to 8.

Step by step

  1. Choose the finish on the far short rail.
  2. Read the start through the cue ball along the line to your trial aim.
  3. Aim = Start − Finish: 5 − 2 = 3. A negative aim is on the other side of the middle.
  4. Add the table correction.

The stroke

No side, centre ball or a touch of follow, firm — the ball travels the length of the table twice.
