Original Position

Half-table return. The red stands on the far long rail and is hit half-ball with running side; the cue ball goes long rail, short rail, long rail and comes back to where its line started — Start = Finish. How far along the rail the red stands from the start decides the effect: one diamond is 1 tip, two diamonds 3 tips, two and a half 4 tips.

FormulaEffect = 2 × (Start − Aim) − 1 + table correction

Reading the numbers

Start On the near long rail, 1 a diamond: where the cue ball's line runs through the red back to that rail.

Aim Where the red stands on the far long rail, on the same numbering.

Arrival The ball comes back to its start: finish = start.

Step by step

  1. Count the diamonds along the rail between the start and the red.
  2. Effect = 2 × distance − 1: one diamond is 1 tip, two diamonds 3 tips, two and a half 4 tips.
  3. Add the table correction and set the side.

The stroke

An exact half-ball hit, running side, centre height, medium-firm stroke.
