Reading the numbers
Start On the near long rail, 5 a diamond: 15 at the third diamond up to 40 in the corner. This branch covers starts 15 to 40.
Aim On the far long rail: 10 a diamond up to 50, then 70 and 90 at the next two — the scale opens up towards the end.
Arrival On the short rail, 5 a diamond: 0 in the corner up to 15.
Step by step
- Read the start and choose the arrival on the short rail.
- Work out the departure adjustment: (40 − Start) ÷ 5. Start 30 gives 2; start 40 gives none.
- Aim = Start + Arrival − Adjustment: 30 + 5 − 2 = 33.
- Add the table correction.
The stroke
Maximum reverse side — the side that works against the ball's turn off the first cushion — at centre height, with a smooth, medium stroke. Reverse turns the ball back on itself at the first cushion; that is what the formula counts on.
