How it works
From the System Library: the source's numbers, checked in this game's physics but not reviewed by a coach.
The classic long-short-long played without side. In its original form the arrival counts one and a half times; these numbers are rescaled so that factor disappears and the working is a plain subtraction: Aim = Start − Arrival.
The three scales step differently — the start 10 a diamond, the arrival 15 and the aim 20 — so read each number on its own rail, never by counting diamonds from another.
Reading the numbers
Start On the near long rail, along the line the cue ball leaves the red on: 80 in the corner, 10 a diamond down to 10 at the seventh diamond.
Aim On the first cushion, the far long rail: 0 in the far corner, 20 a diamond back to 100 at the third diamond.
Arrival On the third cushion, back on the near long rail: 15 at the seventh diamond, 15 a diamond up to 90 at the second.
Step by step
- Choose the arrival: where on the third cushion the cue ball must land to make the second object ball.
- Read the start from the line the cue ball leaves the red on, traced back to the near long rail.
- Aim = Start − Arrival. Start 80 to arrive at 60 aims at 20.
- The new aim moves the line, so re-read the start and work it once more. Then add the table correction.
The stroke
No side, a touch of follow, level cue, medium speed.
