How it works

From the System Library: the source's numbers, checked in this game's physics but not reviewed by a coach.

Long-short-long without side, Aim = Start − Arrival. The rails and steps are the No Side · 1.5 numbering's — the start 10 a diamond, the aim 20, the arrival 15 — so the same shot reads the same in both.

The full numbering carries both further: the start runs round the corner and up the short rail (90 to 120 at 30 a diamond, then 40 a diamond to 200), and the arrival covers the whole long rail, 0 to 120.

Reading the numbers

Start On the long rail behind the cue ball: 80 in the corner, 10 a diamond down to 10 at the 7th diamond. Round the corner, up the short rail: 90 in the corner, 100 and 110 at each third of the first diamond, 120 at it, then 10 every quarter diamond to 200 at the 3rd.

Aim On the first cushion, the far long rail: 0 in the far corner, 20 a diamond back to 80 at the middle diamond.

Arrival On the third cushion, back on the start rail: 0 in the corner by the second cushion, 15 a diamond to 120 in the start's corner.

Step by step

  1. Choose the arrival: where on the third cushion the cue ball must land to make the second object ball.
  2. Read the start from the line the cue ball leaves the red on, traced back to the start rail — the long rail, or the short rail round the corner.
  3. Aim = Start − Arrival. Start 50 to arrive at 20 aims at 30; start 150 to arrive at 90 aims at 60.
  4. Re-read the start along the new line, work it once more, then add the table correction.

The stroke

No side, three tips of follow (12 o'clock), a level cue, a follow-through stroke at two and a half rails' speed.
